Good players make a good tournament and boy did we have a great tournament over the last weekend. 64 players gave their all to make this a fantastic event enjoyed not only by the big crowds watching in the bar but on the live stream also watched by over 1500 people from 14 countries. Congratulations to the winners and runners up in all events and to all the players who really upped their games putting on a fine display of darts over the weekend. Maximums galore and big check outs were the order of the day notably 3 x 170 checkouts by C Hagan, G tipping and C Clive Hanna I would to thank all the players who took part in this, the third year of the festival, especially those who travelled quite a distance from accross the country and even across the water. I could safely say that many of these matches would have been worthy to have been shown on the mainstream tevevision channels. A thanks also to the chalkers and the caller for the semi finals and finals, C Maxwell and Chris Fisher Well done all.
Thanks to P & L taxis Omagh for sponsoring a board and to Andy Martin (Andy’s Dart
Accessorries) for the finals board sponsor.

Challenge Tour Week 7
Last night, Monday 6th June at the Weigh Inn Bar the final qualifiers for the Grand Finals night on Friday 10th June was decided. It was a nail biting finish in the Challenge Tour when on the night each match proved to be very important regarding the league table. When the final match was played and Barry Devlin winning 6-1 over Andy Martin it took Barry to the top of the leader board which had been dominated by T Stoga for most of the last 7 weeks. However both players have secured their well earned places in next years Premier League. The top 15 places for finals night were decided but the final spot was not so straightforward. Three players were in contention, all with 10 points, Fiona Mc Quiggan, Stacey Gurney and Lindsey Mc Fadden. After a count back on leg difference only one point separated them, Stacey -16, Lindsey -15. Lindsey fills the final qualifying spot on finals night. Hard luck to Fionna and Stacey.

The Laurence Brannigan Memorial 2011
The Weigh Inn Bar Players League finals night on Friday 29th April was a great night of exciting darts with every player giving his all to try and win the title in this prestigious competition. The large crowd in attendance were not disappointed with the high standard of darts played. Once again it was a night of high scoring, high checkouts and numerous 11,12 and 13 dart finishes. The 180′s and 140′s were too numerous to record. Looking at the results below you will see that some of the “B” category players done themselves proud upping their game against the more experienced players. M Mc Gillion, P Connolly and M Mc Aleer in particular showing that they can hold their own against the likes of Justy Mc Guigan,C Jackson and last years winner R Mc Mahon. Unfortunately Mc Mahon could not find his form on the night and was unable to finish in the top two in the round robin qualifying stage, unlike last year when he only just managed to get into the qualifying stages but went on to take the title from the then ranked number one in N Ireland and reigning champion D Gurney. But in the end it was the two most consistent players throughout the Players League who made it through to the finals, D Gurney and Campbell Jackson. Out of the 4 week running of the competition these two players met in the finals 3 times. Jackson came out on top on the two previous occasions but it was after a very hard fought and most entertaining final that Gurney came away with the title after beating Jackson 7-6. Daryl went 3 -1 up but Jackson fought back to level the match and take the lead to 5-3. Winning the next leg left him within one leg of victory but Gurney was not going to lose out two years in a row and levelled the match at 6-6. Double tops in the final leg left Daryl the 2011 Weigh Inn Bar Players League winner walking away with £400 and a perpetual trophy. Campbell received £200. I would like to thank all players who took part over the last 4 weeks in what was a most enjoyable and top class tournament. Well done to all.

Weigh Inn 8 Week Individual League
As expected the numbers were down last night due to the league night
falling on Valentines night. Although numbers were down the high
standard of play continued. M Mc Gillion was in top form again with 6
140′s , 2 180′s and the highest checkout on the night of 121. P
Conolly was also throwing high scores with 2 180′s, 7 140′s and a
brilliant 13 darter. M Mc Gread produced some good darts during his
two matches with 5 140′s only to be let down in his match against A
Loughrey being unable to hit his double in the final game with 8
attempts allowing A loughrey to steal the match 4-3.

1st Gina Mc Cusker Memorial Sunday13th Feb
Sunday 13th Feb, the Weigh Inn Bar was the venue chosen by the Mc
Cusker family to hold a darts tournament in honour of their daughter
Gina who sadly passed away at the young age of 12 years after
battling cancer for three years. Gina herself was an avid darts fan
and attended many tournaments with her father Eugene over the
years. It was a fitting tribute to her and her family that such a large
crowd turned up on the day from all parts of the country, north and
south in her honour. Every round produced fantastic darts and
high check outs and 180′s were the order of the day. The Weigh Inn
Bar would like to thank all those who took part and travelled a
distance to make the day a success.
